WhatsApp Fonts — 34+ Best Styles (2026) | StylishText
WhatsApp fonts usually mean two different things: WhatsApp’s own built-in formatting (bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace, typed with symbols) and Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (U+1D400–U+1D7FF) for places WhatsApp has no formatting, like your display name. This page covers both, with a working converter for the Unicode styles.

Why WhatsApp’s own formatting beats Unicode where it exists
WhatsApp’s built-in bold, italic, strikethrough and monospace are real text formatting applied by the app itself — the underlying characters never change, so the message still reads correctly to screen readers, still gets indexed normally if it’s ever searched inside WhatsApp, and never shows as a box on an older phone. Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric styles are a visual trick: they replace each letter with a different Unicode character that merely looks bold or italic, which is why they only make sense in spots WhatsApp gives you no formatting at all, like the profile name field, status text, or a group description.
WhatsApp name and message limits
WhatsApp does not publish an exact character count for the profile display name in its Help Center; third-party reports commonly cite a limit around 25 characters, which we have not independently confirmed on an official WhatsApp page, so treat it as approximate and test your own name before relying on it. Status text is commonly reported at up to 139 characters, also not confirmed on an official WhatsApp page as of 20 Oct 2026.
What happens to letters with no bold or italic version
The Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric block only covers the 26 Latin letters and 10 digits. Accented letters (é, ñ), punctuation, and non-Latin scripts have no bold/italic equivalent in this block, so this tool leaves those characters exactly as typed instead of silently dropping or guessing a replacement for them.
FAQ
How do I bold text in a WhatsApp message?
Put one asterisk on each side of the text, like *this* — WhatsApp turns it bold automatically when you send it. No copy-paste needed.
Can I use these Unicode styles for my WhatsApp name?
Yes — WhatsApp has no formatting option for the profile name, so pasting a Unicode style there is the only way to make it look bold, italic or scripted.
Why does my styled WhatsApp name show boxes for some people?
Their phone’s current font doesn’t have a glyph for those Unicode code points. This is more common on older Android phones; most current iOS and Android devices display these styles correctly.
Does WhatsApp formatting work in group names or descriptions?
The native asterisk/underscore/tilde/backtick markup works in the group description; for the group name itself, only Unicode styles can add visual styling since WhatsApp doesn’t apply its own markdown there.

Found a style that fails on a specific phone, or an updated WhatsApp character limit? Leave a comment with the device, WhatsApp version, and date — approved reports get added above with the date confirmed.
These are Unicode characters, not installable fonts, and styled letters are harder for screen readers and search to read correctly than plain text. See the bold text generator for more bold styles, and the Instagram fonts page for styles made for bio and name fields.
